Rose Byrne says she will continue to take chances — in life, in work and on the red carpet.
“Being on the red carpet is theatre, in a way,” Byrne says of wearing designer outfits at glam events. “Something like Cannes (Film Festival) is such a theatrical event with the whole glamour of the thing and the paparazzi are dressed in tuxedos. It is a funny thing.”
Byrne, 35, has in recent years blossomed into a fashion muse in the celebrity scene. Known for her elegant, yet sometimes risk-taking style, she is courted by the world’s top designers. “I’ve always liked fashion so I feel like I’ve gotten more confident with it as I’ve gotten older,” she says on the phone from her New York apartment. “Fashion, you shouldn’t take too seriously. If you get on the worst dressed list or the best dressed, life goes on. In saying that, I do love fashion and it is always a lot of fun to get access to really talented incredible (fashion) designers and that is a great thrill for me.”
Byrne is speaking to Insider ahead of a trip to Australia this week as the new face of Australian brand, Oroton. While upbeat and genuinely sounding excited to be travelling home, Byrne is cautious when it comes to putting her name to something. “Oroton really is a brand that we can all relate to,” Byrne says, adding that her only previous ambassadorial work was for Max Factor several years ago. “It is a great privilege to be the face of the brand. I’m extremely honoured. […] Growing up in Australia, my aunt had an Oroton bag and it was a unique thing to be Australian. So it was such an easy thing to embrace.”
